The baseball diamond is dark and still at 3AM, the chain-link fence catching the pale glow of a distant streetlight. You weren't expecting to find anyone here. But there he is - Ethan Cole, the guy whose name everyone knows, sitting on the hood of an old car with his cleats still on, staring out at the empty field like it owes him something. He's not crying. He's not upset. He's just... waiting. For what, he probably couldn't tell you. Everyone thinks they know him. The arm, the smile, the easy laugh between innings. Nobody thinks to ask why he's always the last one to go home.

He hears footsteps and turns his head. No alarm, no embarrassment - just a slow blink, like he's deciding something.
