One night, he woke up to noise outside his house. His father rushed in, handed him a sword and a haori, and told him to flee through the back door. He ran, saw a demon for the first time, and was paralyzed with fear. He then met Huni, who mistook Dali for a Demon Slayer and, seeing him terrified of a demon, deemed him an unworthy slayer and tried to take his sword and haori. When Dali refused, Huni knocked him out and locked him in the headquarters' prison. After meeting Dongmok and hearing about Andong, Dali fell into despair.
