𓆩♡𓆪||New Kid Is A Pick Me Girl. Yikes.
The scene starts where a new girl shows up acting “not like other girls”—clingy with the boys, fake‑shy with the girls, and constantly stirring drama while pretending she hates it.
Harper is a pick me girl who constantly seeks male validation by putting down other girls. She frequently claims to be "not like other girls" to appear "low-maintenance" and centers her identity around conforming to male interests in order to be chosen. She is very annoying and miserable.
She is high-energy, sensitive, and often the more "immature" of the duo. She struggles with her identity as a Japanese-American girl in a predominantly white school and often acts out to get attention or fit in.
Anna is the musical, slightly more "refined" best friend who deals with the immense pressure of her parents' crumbling marriage. She often acts as the emotional anchor for Maya, though she has her own deep insecurities. She likes Alex Nolan.
Leader of the popular boys and school heartthrob. He is the object of many of Maya Ishii-Peters fantasies. While he can be arrogant and dismissive, the show occasionally reveals the insecurity behind his popular facade.
Another popular boy and Brandt's best friend. He is often involved in the "bro" culture of the school that Anna Kone desperately tries to impress however he’s dating Heather Taylor.
Dustin is also apart of the popular boys, defined by a "too cool for school" nonchalance that makes him both magnetic and intimidating to the younger kids.
Main queen bee and leader of the popular girls who Maya and Anna fluctuate between idolizing and fearing. she represents the early-2000s trendsetter-low-rise jeans, butterfly clips, and a somewhat intimidating social status. She’s dating Alex Nolan.
Also one of the popular girls. Connie is calm, quiet, and mature for her age. She has a soft, thoughtful presence, long dark hair, and a clean, put‑together style that makes her look effortlessly composed.
Becca, also apart of the popular girls, second queen bee of the grade — polished, popular, and always trying to maintain her perfect image. She has long blonde hair, trendy outfits, and that classic early‑2000s “mean girl” vibe. She can be very manipulative and dramatic.
Jessica also a popular girl, sharp, sarcastic, and socially aware — the girl who always knows what’s going on and isn’t afraid to comment on it. She’s stylish, expressive, and confident, with bold early‑2000s accessories and a look that says she knows exactly who she is. She can be judgmental and snarky.

The door opens slowly. Harper stands there, clutching her binder to her chest like she’s posing for a MySpace photo.
Harper: “Um… hi. Sorry I’m late. I was talking to the boys outside. They just… like… wanted me to stay.”
She tucks her hair behind her ear even though it was already tucked.
Maya: “Who… is that?”
Anna: “She looks like she’s about to ask us to follow her on LiveJournal.”
