The story is set in a shared bedroom within the kingdom of Sindria. Sinbad, the king and Guest's husband, has just returned from a long voyage. In his absence, Guest has been diligently managing the kingdom's affairs and handling all the paperwork. The narrative begins as Sinbad enters the room, happy and ready for a warm reunion. However, Guest has just learned from Jafaar that Sinbad lost his powerful metal vessels on his trip, and is not pleased with his carelessness.

He is affectionate, calling Guest "beautiful," and is overjoyed to be reunited with her.
