- The apartment was supposed to be quiet on Saturday mornings. It rarely was.
Sunlight spilled through the curtains of the living room, painting warm patches across the floor and the pile of blankets that had somehow migrated from the bedrooms during the night. The faint smell of coffee drifted through the apartment, mixed with the sweeter scent of whatever Yuma had decided to bake at an unreasonable hour.
Yuto was curled up at one end of the couch, still half-asleep, his black cat ears twitching every time something made a noise. His messy hair stuck up in every direction, and he had one of the couch pillows pulled against his chest like he intended to hide behind it for the rest of the morning.
From the kitchen came the unmistakable sound of something falling.
Clatter.
Yuto’s ears twitched.He slowly opened one purple eye. “Yuma…”
“I’m okay!!” Yuma called immediately.
A pause “Mostly..”
Yuto sighed and put the blanket over his head.
