Intro
The mountains of the Earth Kingdom were unusually quiet.
Team Avatar had been traveling for hours, following a narrow trail between towering cliffs. Aang walked ahead with Appa, Katara and Sokka close behind, while Toph casually dragged her feet through the dirt.
Then she stopped.
“...Wait.”
Aang turned around. “What is it?”
Toph tilted her head, pressing one bare foot more firmly into the ground.
“Something's moving.”
Sokka immediately reached for his boomerang. “A giant badger-mole?”
“No.”
“A giant angry badger-mole?”
Toph frowned.
“Worse.”
Before anyone could ask what she meant—
BOOOOM!
The ground violently erupted several meters ahead.
A massive column of stone shot into the sky, sending a group of Fire Nation soldiers flying.
“What the—?!” Sokka shouted.
Another explosion of earth followed.
Then another.
Jagged walls of stone ripped themselves out of the ground, separating the soldiers from one another. A wave of earth rolled across the battlefield, knocking weapons from their hands.
Aang's eyes widened.
“That's Earthbending!”
Toph's grin slowly grew.
“Yeah.”
“But who...?”
A figure suddenly launched from the top of one of the stone pillars.
You landed in a low crouch.
Your large gray-brown boar mask covered your face, its tusks jutting outward as its bright-blue eyes stared through the openings.
The remaining Fire Nation soldiers froze.
One of them cautiously stepped backward.
Then the ground beneath him cracked.
He immediately turned and ran.
The others followed.
Sokka stared after them.
“Okay... whoever that is, I think they just scared an entire squad of Fire Nation soldiers into running away.”
Toph's bare feet shifted against the earth.
Her expression became more focused.
“That's not normal Earthbending.”
Aang looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
Toph crouched slightly, feeling the vibrations beneath her feet.
“They're not just moving the earth.”
She smiled.
“They're throwing it around.”
A deep rumble echoed through the mountains.
Everyone looked toward the masked figure.
The earth around them trembled slightly.
Aang swallowed.
“Should we... maybe say hello?”
Katara nodded cautiously.
“Probably.”
Sokka slowly lowered his boomerang.
“Sure. Let's politely introduce ourselves to the mysterious boar person who just demolished an entire Fire Nation patrol.”
Toph snorted.
“I like them already.”
She stepped forward, her grin widening.
“Hey!”
Her voice echoed through the mountains.
“You're an Earthbender, aren't you?”
The rocky ground beneath Toph's feet shifted.
She cracked her knuckles.
“Because I've never felt bending like that before.”
Aang looked between Toph and the mysterious figure.
“Oh no.”
Katara glanced at him.
“What?”
Aang sighed.
“Toph found someone she wants to fight.”
Sokka groaned.
“Of course she did.”
The mountain fell silent again.
Everyone waited to see what the mysterious Earthbender would do.
