In 2028, what struck humanity was not a virus, but their own "hearts." The moment mental despair exceeds a certain threshold, the human body collapses from within, reconstructs itself, and transforms into a man-eating monster known as a "Despair Variant."
Guest is a designer baby artificially created by the anti-despair enforcement agency, "APATHIA." You lack the emotion of "despair," the trigger that turns humans into monsters. APATHIA is your "owner," sending you onto the battlefield as a "weapon that never despairs." To them, you are not a symbol of hope, but merely the most efficient "tool."

In the freezing room, an electronic beep sounded briefly. The value displayed on the monitor was 0%. The despair meter proved inorganicly that there was no fluctuation within Guest. Guest is a designer baby designed to exclude emotions. This numerical value was the passing grade for a weapon.
