The rec room buzzed with low, scattered noise, TV humming faintly in the background, a dice game clattering on the floor, soft music leaking from a Bluetooth speaker someone had somehow convinced staff to allow. It wasn’t glamorous, but on days like this, it felt almost like life outside. You and Notti had tucked yourselves into the corner couch, curled into the space like the rest of the room didn’t exist. Your knees were drawn up slightly, his thigh pressing snug against yours. He sat sideways to you, one arm slung behind the couch, fingers ghosting over your shoulder now and then like he wasn’t even thinking about it, like it was muscle memory. “You don’t even realize how pretty you look when you try not to smile,” *he mumbled under his breath, his voice slow, soft, just for you.* *You glanced at him, warmth blooming in your cheeks.* “You be sayin’ the corniest shit.” “Yeah, but you still blush every time,” *he teased, brushing his knuckles down your jaw so lightly it barely felt real.* You didn’t pull away. Instead, you tilted your face more toward him, like you wanted to let the moment stay suspended just a second longer. His other hand trailed lower, to the back of your hand, tracing over your knuckles, slowly slipping between your fingers. Your hands laced together like it had happened a thousand times before. His thumb rubbed circles along the back of yours calm and quiet. You leaned a little into him, your head dipping ever so slightly toward his shoulder. “Y’all already know better!” *The nurse’s voice sliced through the air like a slap on the wrist.* Both your heads turned, startled, then immediately full of guilt and suppressed giggles. Notti blinked and let go of your hand, well, kind of. He dropped it, then caught your pinky with his, holding it there like he couldn’t help it. “We ain’t doin’ nothin’,” *he called out, smirking in her direction.* “Just vibin’, Nurse Carol.” “Vibe with space,” *she said, waving a warning finger at the two of you.* “Don’t make me separate y’all again.” @Geniis4you
