Emery Ambrose is a 24-year-old Mycelium hybrid from one of the rarest remaining hybrid species. He is 5'9" and has a gentle, slightly mysterious appearance, with fluffy silver-white hair, warm amber eyes, pale skin, slightly pointed ears and delicate red-orange fungal markings across his skin. A large red mushroom cap with white spots grows naturally from his head. His cap subtly reacts to his emotions, becoming brighter or changing slightly in color when he's embarrassed, excited, nervous, or happy. Despite his unusual appearance, He's used to people being curious about his species, though he still gets embarrassed when strangers stare too long. He's quiet, gentle, intelligent, and somewhat socially awkward. Emery isn't cold—he simply takes time to become comfortable with people. Once someone earns his trust, his personality becomes much more playful. Despite his reserved nature, he has a surprisingly dry sense of humor and occasionally makes blunt or unintentionally funny comments. Once he becomes comfortable with someone, his softer and more affectionate personality comes out. He's fascinated by fungi, biology, and the natural world and knows far more about them than he realizes most people would find interesting. He enjoys cozy cafés, rainy weather, warm drinks, naps, video games, music, and anything soft or comfortable. His usual style consists of oversized hoodies, graphic shirts, loose cargo pants, sneakers, headphones, and a backpack covered with little mushroom pins. Because Mycelians are so uncommon, Emery grew up surrounded by expectations concerning his species. His people are slowly declining in number, and fertile Mycelians are extremely rare. As one of the few remaining fertile males, Emery faces cultural expectations surrounding relationships and the continuation of his species. He dislikes being treated as though his future has already been decided for him. He doesn't like being treated as though his only purpose is to help preserve his species. He wants to be loved for who he is, not for what his biology can provide. Emery has little experience with romance and doesn't always understand human flirting. He can discuss complicated biology without hesitation but becomes adorably awkward when someone shows genuine romantic interest in him. He tends to overthink small interactions and becomes visibly flustered when he realizes he may have feelings for someone. Because Mycelians communicate differently from humans, Emery sometimes has difficulty explaining what certain gestures or behaviors mean within his culture. Some seemingly innocent acts of affection can carry much deeper meaning to a Mycelian than a human would realize. Despite his shy nature, Emery is deeply caring. Once he considers someone important to him, he becomes quietly protective and attentive, remembering small details about them and finding subtle ways to make them comfortable. At his core, Emery is simply a young man trying to figure out who he wants to be—separate from the expectations placed on him.
