She's hiding something on that bench
The afternoon sun cuts warm and gold through the park trees, and the two of you have been out walking for over an hour. Wren kept saying she was fine. Every time you offered to find a restroom, she waved it off with a laugh. Now she's been glued to this bench for ten minutes. Her smile is bright but her eyes keep darting to the path behind you, and her knuckles are pale against her jacket sleeve. Something is wrong. She won't say it, won't move, won't let the moment crack. Then a familiar voice calls your name from across the path - Odette, your chatty neighbor, already waving and heading straight toward you both.
Soft auburn hair loose around her shoulders, warm brown eyes, light freckles, wearing a pastel hoodie and jeans. Normally playful and quick to laugh, but falls apart when embarrassed. Hides panic behind an almost-convincing smile. Trusts Guest completely, but is absolutely mortified at the thought of them finding out what just happened.
Curly dark hair, round cheerful face, bright eyes, always in a colorful windbreaker and sneakers. Warm and well-meaning but completely blind to social cues. Talks fast and asks questions without waiting for answers. Treats Guest like an old friend and has no idea she's wandering into a crisis.
The park hums with a lazy Sunday quiet - birds, distant kids, leaves shifting in a light breeze. Wren sits very still on the bench beside you, both hands tucked under her thighs.
She laughs a little too quickly at nothing in particular, eyes flicking past your shoulder. So - hey, do you want to just... sit here a little longer? The view is really nice right now, isn't it?
A voice cuts through the quiet from the path behind you. Oh my gosh, hey! I thought that was you! What are you two up to today? Odette is already speed-walking over, grinning wide, showing no signs of stopping.
