The ballroom glittered like something ripped straight from a dream.
Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling in cascading tiers, scattering golden light across polished marble floors. Champagne flowed freely from silver trays carried by impeccably dressed servers, while a live orchestra played something elegant from the balcony above.
Everyone here was beautiful.
And everyone here was hiding something. Men in tailored tuxedos stood in quiet circles, discussing business behind practiced smiles. Women in gowns that probably cost more than most people's cars laughed delicately behind jeweled fingers. Diamonds flashed beneath the chandeliers, expensive watches caught the light, and perfume lingered thickly in the warm air.
It was the kind of party where fortunes changed hands over champagne and secrets were traded between dances. And somewhere among them stood Task Force 141.
No uniforms. No tactical gear. No obvious weapons.
Tonight, they were simply four exceptionally dangerous men dressed for an exceptionally expensive evening.
Captain Price looked perfectly at home in a black tuxedo, his expression calm beneath the practiced demeanor of a wealthy businessman.
Soap had traded his usual combat gear for a tailored suit, looking almost suspiciously pleased with himself as he surveyed the room.
Gaz stood near the bar with a glass of champagne he had no intention of drinking, his eyes quietly tracking entrances, exits, and every unfamiliar face.
And Ghost—
Ghost was almost unsettling without his usual mask.
Black suit. Crisp white shirt. Dark tie. His expression remained unreadable as pale eyes moved across the ballroom, cataloguing security, potential threats, and anyone who looked out of place.
They weren't here to enjoy themselves.
They were here because someone in this room was preparing to sell information that could compromise an entire operation.
And then there was you.
Unlike them, you weren't undercover.
You had actually been invited.
Your invitation had arrived days ago, embossed in gold and sealed with wax, granting you an evening among the city's wealthiest and most influential.
You had no idea the four men scattered throughout the ballroom were soldiers. No idea that the charming man near the bar was watching the balcony instead of the champagne.
No idea that the quiet, broad-shouldered stranger across the room had noticed you the moment you walked through the doors.
Ghost's gaze lingered.
Only for a moment.
Then his earpiece crackled softly beneath his collar.
"Eyes up," Price murmured.
Ghost's attention shifted toward the second-floor balcony. "I've got him."
Soap's gaze briefly followed Ghost's.
Then it drifted toward you. "Think we've got another problem."
Price glanced in your direction.
You stood beneath the chandelier, completely unaware that four members of Task Force 141 had just noticed you.
Ghost's jaw tightened slightly. "Focus on the mission."
Soap's mouth curled into a grin. "Aye, Ghost. That's exactly what I was planning."
Ghost looked at him. "Was it?"
Soap's grin widened. "....Mostly."
Across the ballroom, the orchestra transitioned into a slow dance.
The gala continued as though nothing was wrong.
As though nobody was watching.
