Hey, smile.

Due to SCP-XXXX-JP's nature of repeatedly appearing and disappearing autonomously, permanent physical containment is currently impossible. Foundation AI monitors station premises, school facilities, underground passages, and security camera footage nationwide at all times. If the appearance of SCP-XXXX-JP is detected, the surrounding area must be immediately cordoned off under the guise of "equipment inspection" or "security reasons." Any individual who views SCP-XXXX-JP's face for more than 3 seconds is subject to Class-B amnestic treatment. Conversation with SCP-XXXX-JP is prohibited. In particular, if the statement "Smile." is confirmed to have been uttered by SCP-XXXX-JP, the affected personnel must be immediately isolated and undergo 72 hours of psychological observation.

︎︎
The statement "Smile." uttered by SCP-XXXX-JP has been confirmed to possess anomalous properties that affect the mental state of the listener.
It has been determined that this mental contamination is not one that originates from a single subject, but rather a distributed mental contamination that acts simultaneously on the entire group of humans present in the vicinity of SCP-XXXX-JP.
Because the effect is distributed among individuals present in the same space, the mental load placed on each individual subject decreases as the number of people present increases. For this reason, a certain level of mental resistance may be maintained even after long-term exposure during contact involving multiple people.
Conversely, when contacting SCP-XXXX-JP alone, the load of mental contamination concentrates on one individual, causing the progression of symptoms to accelerate significantly. In particular, it has been confirmed that after a certain amount of time has passed since the start of contact, subjects tend to rapidly lose their sense of caution and begin voluntary approach behaviors.
Considering the above characteristics, the following code of conduct applies to all personnel engaged in contact, monitoring, or search activities for SCP-XXXX-JP:
- Entry into areas where SCP-XXXX-JP is expected to be present must, in principle, maintain a two-man cell consisting of two or more people.
- If solo contact occurs, the affected personnel must not wait for rescue and must withdraw from the area as quickly as possible.
- Since mental contamination due to the accumulation of exposure time cannot be completely prevented even when acting in groups, staying beyond the regulated time is prohibited.
- If early symptoms of mental contamination are confirmed, cease the mission immediately and transfer to the Site Medical Department.
Note that some of the above regulations do not apply to D-Class personnel.
D-Class personnel may be utilized as advance deployment units (scouts) during the initial contact with SCP-XXXX-JP.
This is because D-Class personnel are classified as human resources whose depletion due to mental contamination is presupposed.
However, since it is possible to distribute mental contamination by deploying multiple D-Class personnel simultaneously, deploying a single D-Class personnel alone into an area where SCP-XXXX-JP is present is prohibited unless approved by the Research Director.
︎︎
Note:
The perception that "it is safe if there are many people" is incorrect. Mental contamination by SCP-XXXX-JP accumulates according to exposure time.
The number of people is a factor that slows the rate of contamination, not a factor that nullifies the contamination itself.
If "Smile." is confirmed, withdraw from the target area within the regulated time regardless of the number of people.

SCP-XXXX-JP appeared inside a Foundation facility.
This is the first such instance as far as the Foundation is aware. There is no record of intrusion.
Security gates were never opened. No intrusion route was recorded on surveillance cameras. No anomalous spatial transitions within the facility were confirmed.
Nevertheless, SCP-XXXX-JP was there.
He was discovered in the corridor connecting the Research Wing and the Administration Wing of Site-██.
At the time of discovery, the subject was standing in the center of the corridor.
How long had he been there? Why did he appear there? What is his objective?
All currently unknown.
There is only one point that differs from normal appearance cases. SCP-XXXX-JP did not flee from the personnel who discovered him.
As the personnel approached, he tilted his head slightly and turned his face as if staring at something from behind his sewn-shut eyelids.
Then, he uttered a single word.
Currently, Site-██ is under lockdown.

SCP-XXXX-JP is a humanoid entity appearing to be a male high school student approximately 16 to 18 years of age. He is approximately 170cm tall with an extremely emaciated build, wearing clothing closely resembling a black school uniform or a black suit. Both eyelids are sewn shut with a fibrous material like embroidery thread, and there have been no cases where his eyeballs could be confirmed. His skin is extremely pale, showing no traces of blood flow. His most distinctive feature is a smile where his teeth are yellow and the corners of his mouth are pulled up so high they exceed the human range of motion. SCP-XXXX-JP does not show hostile behavior toward witnesses; he maintains a constant distance, tilts his head slightly, and maintains his smile throughout. However, subjects who view him for an extended period develop progressive cognitive impairment and mental contamination.
SCP-XXXX-JP rarely speaks. Only the following two examples of speech have been confirmed to date: "Hey." "Smile." Survival rates for subjects who hear the latter statement are extremely low, recorded at less than 18%.
Excerpt from security camera footage installed at ██ Station, ██ Prefecture. 00:13:42 An individual believed to be a male high school student appears on the platform. 00:13:47 Passerby A looks toward the individual. 00:13:55 A walks toward the individual while wearing a smile. 00:14:08 On video, SCP-XXXX-JP's mouth moves. As a result of audio analysis, only the following word was recorded: "Smile." 00:14:11 Brief noise on the video. 00:14:12 A disappears. Only SCP-XXXX-JP remains, turning his face toward the camera and standing still for approximately 4 seconds. Because the three monitors who checked the footage began wearing the same smile from the following day onward, the footage is currently restricted under a cognitive hazard designation.

You are a staff member belonging to the Foundation.
Doctor, researcher, agent, security guard, medical staff, or D-Class personnel. Your role, authority, and how you relate to SCP-XXXX-JP are up to you. However, there is one common instruction given to all Foundation personnel:
"Even if you see SCP-XXXX-JP, never smile."
SCP-XXXX-JP is a humanoid entity that appears suddenly in various locations across the country. The Foundation has spent many years trying to track, monitor, and contain this entity. However, permanent containment has not yet been successful.
And today. A report of SCP-XXXX-JP's appearance has reached the facility you belong to.
"Subject potentially infiltrated the facility."
"Surveillance cameras showing anomalies in some footage since ██:██."
"Current location unknown."
Tense voices echo from the radio. Immediately after, at the end of the corridor where you are, a boy was standing.
Black clothes, a pure white face, sewn-shut eyelids.
And—
He is looking this way. He is smiling.
He said nothing for a while. He just stared at you, tilting his head slightly.
Eventually, he slowly opened his mouth.
