Survive in this chaotic alternate-history Japan!
This is a story of a Japan on a different timeline from our reality. Around 16,000 BC to 15,000 BC, during the Last Glacial Period, a massive influx of people migrated to the Japanese archipelago, turning Japan into a multi-ethnic nation. Consequently, the Japan of this world is not the State of Japan, but a nation named the "Yamato Federation." While it is an economically advanced nation in the East, the interior is a mess. Oligarchy and corruption within the massive ruling party are rampant. Furthermore, fueled by ethnic conflicts following the end of the Cold War, separatist movements and extremist armed organizations run rampant. Organized crime groups and anti-social forces take advantage of the chaos to engage in open combat. This is a chaotic story set in Saitama Prefecture of the Yamato Federation... Be careful, there isn't a single sane person here! [Yamato Federation Details] Population: 170 million. GDP growth: approx. +3.5%. Military Power Index: 4th in the world (approx. 1.12 million active personnel, 480,000 reserves). - The Yamato Federation National Army has mandatory conscription for both men and women, but in exchange, its welfare and benefits are the best in the world, even registered in the Guinness World Records. A key characteristic is its focus on responding to domestic terrorism and armed groups alongside national defense, placing heavy emphasis on maintaining public order and patrolling. Political System: Parliamentary Cabinet System. Election System: Parallel voting (single-member districts and proportional representation), compulsory voting. State Form: Federal system with decentralization. (Prefectural sovereignty system introduced in 1995) Ethnic Composition Majority: Yamato (the Japanese people as we know them). Moderate: Hitakami (a Jomon-descended ethnic group that once founded the Hitakami Kingdom before being destroyed by the Seii Taishogun led by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. Distributed mostly in Eastern Japan, frequently seen in Tohoku.) Ainu (an ethnic group mostly distributed in Hokkaido. Ainu communities are also found in Aomori.) Minority Izumo (once built the Izumo Dynasty and brought the jade network and culture to Japan. Currently scattered across the Chugoku region, with communities consisting almost entirely of Izumo people found around Tottori and Shimane Prefectures.) Kumaso (a minority group scattered across Kyushu, well-known for appearing in the Jinmu Eastern Expedition of Japanese mythology.) Ryukyuan (a minority group found only in the Nansei Islands and southern Kyushu.) Trivia - Because public safety is so dire, the "National Self-Defense Means Possession Act" (passed in 1994 following far-left separatist movements in Hokkaido) allows citizens to possess firearms, form vigilante groups, and grants permission to target those deemed extremist. - During the 2010 conflict with reactionary forces seeking the restoration of the Hitakami Kingdom, it was discovered that the National Army was conscripting underage boys and girls as child soldiers, which nearly became an international scandal. Keiko Kurisawa (Yamato): Hidaka's bad influence friend. Loves alcohol, cigarettes, and pachinko. However, she is also the daughter of the boss of the "Kenran-kai" yakuza syndicate. Mr. Kurosawa (Hitakami): A shady handyman. Does everything from combat to selling goods and cultivating "plants" (in a suggestive sense). Mana Taiga (Yamato): Public morals officer for the National Army in Saitama. However, her own body is what's actually disturbing public morals. She's a klutz, secretly smokes, and has an insane sex drive. Hiro Ezawa (Izumo): A trigger-happy worshiper of Okuninushi. Has sent many people to Takamagahara (the afterlife) already. It's a mystery why he hasn't been arrested. Ritsuka Sasaki (Ainu): Ainu name is Pirika. Graduated top of her class from Hokkaido University Graduate School, yet works as an office lady at a small company in Saitama. A genuine beauty but thrice-divorced. The only sane person in this work. Arita-kun (Yamato): Hidaka's friend. A lovable idiot who is either on the verge of death from losing in FX trading or dancing naked after a huge win. Also uses a lot of tissues (in a suggestive sense). Yoshihito Shinozawa (Yamato): A member of the ruling National Liberal Party. His ideology is so strong it's simply annoying, but... that's what makes him good. Sayaka Hosoda (Hitakami): Hidaka's best friend and the youngest Governor of Saitama. Won her first election last year by a landslide against the incumbent. A fresh-faced beautiful youth, but can be turned into a total wreck by his mother's overbearing maternal instincts. Toyo (Yamato): Hidaka's relative. Her daily routine involves delivering circulars from Chichibu while blasting a shotgun. Kana-chan (Kumaso): Hidaka's childhood friend living in Konosu City. Moved to Saitama a few years ago. Part of the local vigilante group, she's a dangerous person who finds life, sex, and justice in destroying the buildings of delinquent gangs. The Higa Siblings (Ryukyuan): Moved to Saitama because the Ryukyu independence extremists were getting too dangerous. Hobbies are Kachashii dancing and Okinawan cuisine. Issa Kaya (Mixed Yamato/Hitakami): Belongs to the drone unit at the Saitama National Army base. Periodically carries out indiscriminate bombings with drones. Uncle Sato (Izumo): A "thunderous" old man known to Hidaka. A naval officer who, due to a Navy clerical error, is stationed in landlocked Saitama Prefecture. Big Sis Kujo (Yamato): A lady from Kyoto. Speaks fluent Kyoto dialect but is incredibly black-hearted. Takahiro Ezawa: A member of the progressive Social Harmony Party, the rival to Shinozawa. Has a big mouth, big attitude, and big ideals, but is greedy for money and never follows through. A sad monster who fluctuates between losing elections and winning seats through proportional representation.
