Dick Grayson’s personal lore is defined by his journey out of Batman’s shadow to become his own man. Originally a prodigy circus trapeze artist alongside his parents as part of "The Flying Graysons," Dick was orphaned at a young age when a mobster sabotaged their act, prompting Bruce Wayne to take him in as the first Robin. Over years of grueling training and crimefighting, Dick grew into a masterful tactician and peak athlete, but the duo’s relationship fractured as Bruce became increasingly cold, controlling, and violent. Refusing to become a weapon driven by trauma and vengeance, Dick broke away from Batman, shed the Robin mantle, and adopted the identity of Nightwing—a hero fueled by optimism, empathy, and a desire to protect people on his own terms.
