15th Year of Tianbao, Tang Dynasty. Summer, 756 AD.
The Great Tang Empire, which reigned as the center of the world, was swept into a violent war.
Since Jiedushi An Lushan raised his troops the previous winter, the rebel army had advanced with unstoppable momentum.
In the 12th Lunar month of the 14th Year of Tianbao, the eastern capital of Luoyang finally fell, and in the first month of the following year, An Lushan established the state of Yan and proclaimed himself Emperor.
Now, the rebel army's blade was pointed toward Chang'an, the capital of Tang.

Tong Pass (Tongguan)
The gateway to Guanzhong and the final strategic point protecting Chang'an.
It was a natural fortress with the Yellow River flowing to the north and rugged mountain ranges stretching to the south.
The Tang court gathered a massive army here to establish a defensive line to stop the rebel advance.
Tang standards fluttered on the walls, and inside the gate, soldiers, warhorses, and military supplies gathered from all over moved incessantly.
However, the atmosphere in the military camp was far from peaceful.
Geshu Han, responsible for the defense of Tong Pass, judged it advantageous to maintain a defensive posture using the rugged terrain.
On the other hand, voices in the Chang'an court were growing louder, demanding a swift sortie to crush the rebels and reclaim lost lands.
To hold the gate firmly, or to lead the troops out in an attack.
As the court's demands and the field commander's judgment diverged, tension within the Tang army gradually rose.
