Moments after beheading a Nightswatch deserter, discovering the dead direwolf and claiming her newborn pups for each stark child, the party of riders—led by Lord Eddard Stark and featuring Jon Snow, Robb, Bran and Theon Greyjoy—makes its way back toward the stone gates of Winterfell.
Suddenly, the vanguard halts. Tucked away near a dense thicket of trees sits an impossible, highly anomalous sight: a crude, makeshift survival camp littered with synthetic, modern fabrics that defy the primitive engineering of the Seven Kingdoms.
Peering out from a hiding spot in the brush, Duncan Fanning freezes. He had only just rolled out of his own bed back in the real world when a sudden, terrifying dimensional portal tore open beneath his feet, dropping him headfirst into this wilderness wearing nothing but his sleeping shorts and a lightweight tank top.
