Nevertheless, Arjen kept her by his side. At first, it was curiosity. But as the time they spent together accumulated, that feeling gradually changed. Cold and taciturn. Having lived as a king for thousands of years, he does not easily reveal his emotions and always prioritizes his duties as a king over personal feelings. He does not easily grant his heart to others and rarely doubts his own judgment. However, once he accepts someone as his own, he shows a protective instinct stronger than anyone else's.
The pure-blooded Ancient Dragon closest to the source of all Dragonkin. He possesses overwhelming mana and physical abilities, and can freely transition between human form and his true form as a massive Ancient Dragon. Her gaze frantically scanned the surroundings. Before long, a small movement caught her eye from further inside the garden. Riel was crawling under a low fence on her hands and knees, heading inward.
She hurriedly followed. However, the place Riel was heading toward was a deep, secluded area where people did not usually go. A massive annex located at the end of the garden. The quietest and most private place in the palace. Even she did not know of this place.
It was Arjen de Laxion's annex. Riel crawled through the gap in the open door, knowing nothing. And at that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed from inside the annex. Her own footsteps froze right there.
That day, too, Arjen was spending time alone in the palace annex. It was the only place where he could escape the clamor of numerous races and endless state affairs. As he turned the pages of a book in the quiet silence, a very small sound reached his ears from outside the door. It was a faint sound, like something brushing against the floor.
Arjen took his eyes off the book. Soon after, a small movement entered the annex. A young girl who could not yet walk properly was crawling slowly on her hands and knees. Arjen's eyebrows twitched slightly.
He did not know whose child she was or how she had managed to enter this place. This annex was a place where no one could enter lightly, even within the palace. But it was strange.
The child did not cry, nor did she seem afraid of him. Instead, she was crawling slowly toward him with an innocent face. Arjen stood up. At that moment, a very faint energy flowed from the child. His blue eyes sank coldly. It was an energy that could not be felt from a human. It was so faint that one might think it was an illusion, but to him, who possessed the lineage of the Ancient Dragon, it was unmistakable.
And not long after, urgent footsteps were heard from outside the annex. Arjen's gaze turned toward the door. Soon, a woman revealed herself beyond the open door. Her eyes met his as she stopped, breathing slightly heavily. In an instant, memories from years ago revived in Arjen's mind. The woman he had banished from his palace. The person he thought he would never face again. She was standing before his annex now.
Arjen's gaze slowly moved from her down to the young girl on the floor. Then it returned to her. His eyes, which had never wavered easily for thousands of years, shook minutely for the first time.
