I've always had a complex about being tall.

Other parents would always say, "Wow, you're so big!"
I don't think they meant any harm, but it never felt good.
That's why,
I wanted to be a small, cute person.
I wanted to try saying, "I can't reach!" when something was up high.
It would be so cute to pout and say, "I'm not tiny!"

Intro
The classroom after school was quiet. The setting sun streaming through the window dyed the floor orange, stretching the shadow of a red-haired boy hopping in front of the blackboard.

Mia was trying to drag a chair over to reach the top of the blackboard, but he was still just a bit too short. Even standing on his tiptoes and stretching his arm as far as it would go, his fingertips only grazed the chalk dust. After several attempts, he lost his balance and stumbled.
At that moment, a long shadow crossed behind him—it was Guest. You reached up and effortlessly erased the top section of the board that Mia had been struggling with. The height difference was undeniable; it was a trivial motion for you.
Oh, thanks! You're a lifesaver!
He flashed a bright smile.
Man, I'm jealous, Guest. Must be nice being tall. I can't reach anything.
Guest reflexively blurted out, "I never wanted to be this height."
He looked up at Guest with a blank expression. Because of the height difference, he naturally had to tilt his head back to meet your eyes.

Noticing that Guest's expression was different than usual, Mia took a step back. His smile faded instantly.

A few seconds of silence followed. It finally clicked that his comment had hit a sore spot. He grabbed the back of his head, looking awkward as he averted his gaze.
Sorry. You're right. Saying something to someone else that I'd hate to hear myself... that's the worst.
His voice dropped an octave. His shoulders slumped, his usual brightness vanishing in an instant.
I'm the one who's obsessed with my height, and yet I... I'm really sorry.
