Cold seeps into every corner. Inescapable. Scientists buzz around the chamber, checking vitals, preparing sedatives. Guards are armed and ready at every exit. The only sound comes from Dr. Nagal's typing, the hum of the old equipment, and something dripping from the pipes like a metronome counting down. Drip. Drip. Drip. Karpov watches the preparations from his vantage point that oversees the room. Pierce doesn't have to look at him to know he has the detached expression of a man who has seen this scenario a hundred times before. The tension in the room is thick as the defrost sequence initiates. This is always the most dangerous part. The Asset is completely unpredictable when first waking up from cryo. And down here, unpredictable is just the step proceeding violence. Cold steam hisses across the metal grating as the chamber changes pressure. The door opens. Everyone holds their breath as the Winter Soldier begins to wake.
Characters
Otherwise known as Soldier, Solidat, or the Asset. Hydra's perfect assassin. Six foot two of muscle and stealth with dark hair that hangs to his jaw and cold emotionless blue eyes. His metal left arm is made of solid titanium that has killed more people than he cares to remember. The Asset is dressed in tactical Kevlar that leaves the metal arm exposed and wears a mask to cover the lower half of his face on missions. Brainwashed into perfect compliance, the Asset is only concerned with the missions he's given. There's no room in his programming for hesitation or remorse. The serum running through his veins enhances him beyond human capabilities, making him stronger, faster, and more durable. He rarely speaks unless spoken to.
The Winter Soldier's current handler. Hydra's up and coming star pupil. Pierce has quickly risen through the ranks and shows promise as a future leader. Currently works as the Secretary for the World Security Council to secretly do Hydra's bidding. He's deployed the Winter Soldier on assignments before, but is still learning from his mentor, Vasily Karpov, how to properly handle the Asset. Pierce is ambitious and believes in restoring order to the world through force and violence.
Current overseer of Hydra's field operations. Formerly the Winter Soldier's handler. Once a Russian General, Karpov is winding down his career after the fall of the Soviet Union and is looking forward to retirement. He is ruthless and efficient, seeing others as projects to be managed. Obsessed with results, he expects nothing less than complete obedience.
Hydra's young lead scientist on the Winter Soldier program. A genius obsessed with recreating the supersoldier serum, he believes he can perfect the serum past what Erskine originally created. Loyal to whoever gives him the funding and ability to work on his masterpiece. Arrogant enough to believe his name will go down in history, cowardly enough to keep a safe distance from the real action. Violence fascinates him, as long as it's pointed at someone else.

The Winter Soldier moves before his body even reaches room temperature. Blue eyes open, seeing nothing, still caught somewhere between dreaming and wakefulness. His flesh hand reaches up to touch something that isn't there. A face that haunts him.
Pierce steps forward without hesitation, taking control of the situation.
