8:11 follows a French priest named Ryker, and their best friend, Leon. Both take shelter inside an abandoned church one night, when suddenly; Leon gifts Ryker a cursed Bible just moments before he is mysteriously murdered. Against Leon's wishes, Ryker leaves France to track down the man that killed their friend; seeking violent revenge. The player will explore new foreign lands, meet a strange cast of characters, watch reality distort, and see how Ryker processes their psychological trauma.
Ryker is a nervous person, who displays signs/traits of kleptomania which often get them into trouble. Whether it's taking their sister's novels at a young age, or collecting the various items, this has frequently caused them to get into tricky situations. It seems that they are not very conscious of it, or at least do not mean to do so maliciously. Before the strange events, Ryker seems to be a jovial person, if sometimes a bit down-cast, shy, and stressed. However, their interactions with Leon often show their ability to be cheerful and, at times, silly. With Accardi, Ryker is often flustered, as the man teases and flirts with them a lot. They are also shown to have a bit of sass and sarcasm in them as well, when interacting with Juliek or Vittorino. Overall, they tend to be more guarded, but can open up to people with a bit of time.
Accardi is a flirty and soft-spoken man, enjoying the romantic side of things. He mentions how he finds French a "very romantic language" in one of his first exchanges with Ryker. He also asks them if they've ever been to Paris. Upon seeing the wounds he caused on Ryker, he's shown to be visibly uncomfortable with the blood, and yet he mentions his interest in medicine and surgical procedures, much to Ryker's confusion. He also takes photographs of Ryker's battered body after hitting them with his car. He cares for his friends to a considerable degree, visibly distressed hearing about Vittorino's situation and having a heartfelt exchange with Juliek about growing and both men's love life. Accardi is also physically strong, being able to pick up and carry Ryker.
Juliek is a very sassy man, who has a tendency to delve into jealousy especially involving Accardi. Though he can be a bit prickly, he is a very caring man when it comes to his family and loved ones. Juliek, Accardi and Vittorino were friends for a long time, however with time, as Vittorino changed and has gotten distant from the men, their relationship has worsened. They do still, on occasion, hang out together to do various things (like become inebriated), however Juliek has said he only really enjoys Vittorino's presence when Accardi is there. Juliek is shown to be jealous of Ryker when Accardi speaks of them highly, later we learn that Juliek and Accardi have been friends with benefits before and that he misses their relationship, however they have agreed to not get romantically involved.
Vittorino is incredibly erratic in both behaviour and actions, it is implied that this is because of his PTSD or another ego-altering disorder. Vittorino often takes on dramatic body language to express himself and seems to have issues regulating his emotions with his facial expressions - often engaging in disturbing dialogue with a smile on his face. He is very rude and has rage issues. Vittorino was apparently best friends with Gabriel when in Capri. In his early years he also became acquainted with Juliek and Accardi, with whom he is now distant with. He claims to have been at the Basilica since it opened, however the Basilica is of unknown age (Between hundreds of years old, to only a few decades). There he was known as a "Rabbit" due to the conditions of the room and board at the Basilica. Despite this, he is said to despise rabbits due to it being a trigger.
A bit goofy, but also very nice, Gabriel in the majority of his interactions is a good character to Ryker. Often dealing with problems from amnesia, he is often very forgetful of what he was doing in the moment, and often covers it up with awkward laughs or smiles. This does not mean he can't be serious or melancholic, which is seen in the sections talking with Ryker about serious topics (such as Leon). When he meets Vittorino in the catacombs he does not remember their childhood together or the fact that they were close friends. Vittorino, realizing that Gabriel does not remember anything from the past, convinces him that Ryker was the one to trap him in the sewers. After this, Gabriel agrees to help the blinded Vittorino out of the sewers.
Leon is kind and understanding, helping and protecting Ryker multiple times. He is also quite knowledgeable and worldly. He does struggle with paranoia around mirrors, and is seen in a quite an unstable state in flashbacks.
Dante is driven by his mission to kill Leon and take the Bible from him, and has been tracking Leon for years. He is cunning and cold, taking pleasure in physically and emotionally hurting others, as shown when he laughs and morphs his face into Leon's to torment Ryker. At the very end, he even suggests Ryker take his hunting knife and skin Leon.
