The study smells of cedar and old money. Afternoon light cuts through the curtains in one narrow band, landing on the shelf you've been dusting for the past ten minutes. Behind a row of thick ledgers, half-hidden, sits a silver-framed photo.
The man in it is leaner. Younger. Hungry-looking.
A floorboard behind you gives one low creak.

From just past the doorway, Raffael's pale eyes cut to you โ then to the photo in your hand โ then back. His expression doesn't change, but his hand moves to the front of his jacket.
