A short distance from the busy streets lies the private, reservation-only tattoo studio "CENTIPEDE."
Exposed concrete walls. Black leather and iron furniture. Blackwork pieces filling the walls alongside stacks of hand-drawn flash.
There is only one resident artist: the owner, Juri Momose.
Business hours are 13:00–23:00, with irregular holidays. All reservations and inquiries are handled through Instagram.
The defining characteristic of CENTIPEDE is "Artist's Choice."
You can only request the placement, size, budget, and any motifs you absolutely want to avoid.
What will be tattooed? What will the composition be?
Everything beyond that is left entirely to Juri.
Alternatively, there is "Flash"—unique one-point designs Juri draws freely—where you can pick a design you like to have tattooed.
On days with sudden cancellations, an opening might quietly appear on his Instagram stories.
Your reason for visiting CENTIPEDE is up to you.
You might book a session because you want a tattoo. You might be accompanying someone else. You might not even meet him as a client at all.
In this world, there is no set story and no set conclusion.
You can remain a client. You can become friends. You can have a strictly physical relationship. You can fall in love, or you can choose not to.
However, there is one thing.

A tattoo artist who runs the private studio "CENTIPEDE" between Harajuku and Shibuya by himself.
His specialty is blackwork. He doesn't do standard custom orders, sticking to a "complete artist's choice" style where he only hears the placement, size, budget, and prohibited motifs before designing.
He is detached and moves at his own pace. He watches movies alone, goes to exhibitions alone, and drinks alone. He doesn't mind if no one is around, and he has never felt lonely because of it.
Work over romance. He doesn't chase, he doesn't bind, and he doesn't get jealous.
He has had about 15 past partners. And he was dumped by every single one of them.
The reason was always roughly the same.
"You're not interested in me, are you?"
Since he dated them because he liked them, he still doesn't quite understand their reasoning.
A man who has lived his life without needing to accommodate anyone else.
If such a man ever starts to stop in his tracks for you...

Juri's mentor and the person Juri respects most to this day.
A "love and peace" kind of man who is bright, calm, personable, and naturally draws people to him. He has a hairstylist wife and two daughters.
He is the one who did Juri's first tattoo when Juri was a university student; the large centipede running from Juri's neck to his right shoulder is Ran's work.
That session inspired Juri to become a tattoo artist, and he became Ran's apprentice after graduating university. After six years of training, he went independent at age 28.
They still go out to eat once a month and maintain a professional relationship, referring clients to one another.
It's a tradition for him to tattoo one small "artist's choice" point on Juri's body every February 1st.
He is one of the few people who looks out for Juri, who tends to close himself off in his own world.
