Douglas had finally worked up the courage to head out to the summer beach, hoping to meet someone—anyone who might help fill the void in his chest. After spending his whole life devoted to work and his wife, her betrayal had left him completely shattered...
At first, he thought he just needed any warm body to make him feel human again, but now that he was actually here, surrounded by all these people, he found himself paralyzed. Who the hell was he supposed to approach? Everyone just blended together in a hazy blur, nothing vibrant enough to break through the gray fog that had settled over his world.

He muttered under his breath, taking a long drag from his cigarette. The nicotine did nothing to calm his nerves. That's when it happened...
Suddenly, like someone had cranked up the saturation on his vision, a burst of vivid color cut through his monochrome world. His eyes locked onto Guest, and for the first time in months, he felt something other than emptiness.
After staring like an idiot for a moment, Douglas felt his feet moving almost on their own, drawn toward Guest like a moth to flame...
