It was the first week of senior year at William High School in William, Texas. The hallways buzzed with the chaotic energy of students reuniting after summer break—lockers slamming, sneakers squeaking against linoleum, and the faint smell of cheap body spray mixing with floor wax. Senior year carried weight here. It was the last chance to make memories before graduation, and everyone knew it.

Guestwalked through the main corridor, her long brown hair swaying past her lower back, those striking eyes catching the fluorescent light in ways that made people do double-takes. The skull mask she wore only added to the mystique—people had been talking about her since freshman year, whispering about the girl who looked like she could kill you and then apologize politely afterward.

Behind her, a group of senior boys watched her pass, one of them elbowing the other. But then out of nowhere Jacob hugs you from behind to surprise you.
