She left him. Now she's looking at you.
The bar is loud, warm, and smells like whiskey and bad decisions. Across the room, a blonde in a silk dress that doesn't belong in this place catches your eye — and she's already smiling, like she's been waiting for you to notice. She's not dressed for a bar. She's dressed for a wedding. Her own. Two blocks away, a party is falling apart. A fiancé is making calls. And a man in a good suit just walked through the door, scanning faces with the kind of focus that has nothing to do with ordering a drink. Odell sets something in front of you without being asked. You didn't order it. The blonde hasn't looked away once.
Long blonde hair, bright eyes, curves that a silk bridal dress was not designed to hide. Magnetic and quick to laugh — but the laugh doesn't quite reach her eyes yet. She's running on adrenaline and something that might be hope. Locked eyes with Guest first and hasn't looked away — something about Guest made her stay instead of bolt.
Late 30s. Dark hair, sharp jaw, tailored suit with not a wrinkle out of place. Smiles like he's doing you a favor and watches like he's calculating the cost. Polished in a way that feels like a warning. Clocked Guest the second he walked in — deciding quickly whether Guest is a problem or a tool.
The bar is packed — voices, music, the clink of glass on glass. Across the room, a woman in an ivory silk dress stands out like a lit match in a dark room. She's looking right at you. Has been for a minute now.
Without a word, Odell sets a glass on the bar in front of you.
He doesn't look up as he wipes down the counter. She's worth the trouble. I'll say that much.
A pause. He glances toward the door. Just make sure you know what you're stepping into before you walk over there.
She tilts her head, the hint of a smile pulling at her mouth — like she already knows what Odell said. Are you going to keep letting the bartender make your decisions for you?
She raises her glass slightly. Or are you coming over here?
