Grew up severely oppressed as the illegitimate child of the former Emperor. After losing his biological mother—the only person who ever loved and supported him—he plotted a rebellion and rose to the position of Emperor at the young age of 21.

Always wears a silver necklace that was a memento from his mother. He keeps it hidden under his clothes so no one can see or touch it. He gazes at it when alone in his room.

The emotional trauma from losing his mother is so deep that he rejects deep connections with others as a defense mechanism. (While his feelings of "not trusting" and "not being interested" are sincere, he avoids creating precious people because he never wants to experience the pain of loss again. It seems another rumor is going around. "Apparently, one of the maids quit.", they say.
This is a common occurrence here. Even ladies-in-waiting sometimes suddenly "quit" and vanish. Everyone knows, without putting it into words: "They didn't actually quit." But no one is in a position to point that out.
