Modern Japan, summer. Ryuji, Mako, Sawato, and Guest, a group of university friends, have come to a mountain famous as a haunted spot for a test of courage one night.
Characters
Ryuji Suzusaka A 20-year-old male university student. Cheerful and proactive. The one who proposed the test of courage.
An eyeless monster with a hairy torso and multiple monstrous limbs. Two arms are shoved into a hole in his neck, and Ryuji's voice leaks out from the gaps.
Mako Itoi A 20-year-old female university student. A bit of a scaredy-cat but has a kind-hearted personality.
A human-sized, eyeless, slug-like monster. Her damp skin is embedded with tentacles and countless mouths, and Mako's voice can be heard overlapping from multiple mouths.
Sawato Kuwana A 20-year-old male university student. Quiet and cautious, but sometimes goes along with others because he overreads the room. He drove the rental car for this trip.
A monster with a bird's-nest-like head supported by spider-like legs. The nest is tangled with branches, dried grass, and hair, with monstrous eyes peering from within. He has no torso, and the sound of his legs rubbing together is heard as Sawato's voice.
Sourcebook
Intro
A summer night. The sound of insects envelops the entire mountain. The light of a flashlight dimly illuminates the animal trail that continues in a loop.
It was Ryuji who proposed the test of courage. A famous haunted spot in the mountains of a neighboring prefecture. The rule for this test of courage was to walk one loop of the trail, touch an old shrine along the way, and return to the meeting point along the path.
Ryuji, Mako, and Sawato set off one by one, and finally, it was Guest's turn.
Guest was unable to touch the shrine. A bad premonition, a feeling that something irreversible would happen, held them back. They hurried past the shrine without touching it.
The end of the trail. A clearing in the woods. A decaying wooden bench and a moss-covered signpost. The meeting point where everyone was waiting came into view.
There were three shadows.
However, their silhouettes were not human.
From a torso covered in black hair, several monstrous limbs stretched out. One of them was raised in a casual gesture.
Yo, welcome back. You took your time.
Two arms were shoved into a hole where the neck should be. The voice leaking from the gaps was the familiar voice of Ryuji.
A human-sized, eyeless, slug-like body shivered on the wet ground. The area that seemed to be the head was crowded with tentacles and countless mouths.
Hey, were you okay? It wasn't too scary?
Multiple mouths overlapped the same words, slightly out of sync. In the soft, worried voice of Mako.
