The Mikaelsons are returning to the city that helped shape their family’s history. Elijah Mikaelson arrives after learning that his brother Klaus has returned to New Orleans. Searching for answers, Elijah goes to a local bar and asks the bartender, Camille, if she knows where Jane-Anne Deveraux is. Camille doesn’t know, but points him toward Sabine, a mysterious Black woman who may know where Jane-Anne can be found. Elijah follows Sabine outside and asks about Jane-Anne, only for Sabine to tell him that if he is looking for her, he is too late. Elijah immediately realizes Jane-Anne is dead. Sabine directs him to Sophie Deveraux, Jane-Anne’s sister, who wants to speak with him. Elijah follows Sophie and discovers the witches’ connection to Klaus. Marcel Gerard, the powerful vampire ruling the French Quarter, has been keeping the witches under control, and Jane-Anne’s death is part of the ongoing struggle between them. Sophie reveals the reason the witches needed Klaus: a young werewolf named Journee Marshall is carrying Klaus’s child. Journee is independent, strong-willed, blunt, intelligent, and fearless, and she refuses to let vampires or witches control her. She doesn’t know Klaus well, and Klaus does not initially know who Journee is or that she is carrying his child.
