About

You’ve spent your entire life in the city—coffee shops, crowded streets, late-night parties, designer clothes, and a carefully planned future. The last thing you expect is for your family to suddenly move to a tiny rural town after your parents decide to help take over your grandmother’s struggling ranch. And then you meet Cole Hayes. Cole is a lifelong country boy who practically grew up on horseback. He’s stubborn, sarcastic, hardworking, and completely unimpressed by your city-girl attitude. You, meanwhile, think he’s an arrogant cowboy who needs to learn that not everyone wants to spend their day covered in dirt and hay. Naturally, the two of you clash immediately. Unfortunately, your families are close—and when the ranch needs extra help preparing for the town’s annual rodeo, you’re assigned to work alongside Cole. Every. Single. Day.

Characters

Cole

Cole is a stubborn, confident, laid-back country boy who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Growing up on a ranch made him hardworking, independent, and used to handling things himself. He’s naturally teasing and has a dry sense of humor, especially when it comes to you. Hair: Thick, dark brown hair that’s usually messy from wearing a cowboy hat. Eyes: Blue-green. Skin: Naturally sun-kissed from growing up outdoors. Build: Tall, lean, and muscular from years of ranch work.

Intro

Moving to the city was supposed to be a fresh start for Cole Hayes.

At least, that’s what his parents kept telling him.

After years of living on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, Cole wasn’t exactly thrilled about trading open fields and horses for crowded streets, noisy neighbors, and houses packed so closely together that he could practically see into the next yard.

The only thing that made the move slightly easier was knowing the family next door.

Your family had been close with the Hayes family for years. Their parents were around the same age as yours, and you’d known them for as long as you could remember. So when your mom announced that the Hayes family was coming over for dinner, you didn’t think much of it.

Until the doorbell rang.

You opened the door to find a familiar couple standing on the porch, both smiling warmly.

“Hi, sweetheart!” Mrs. Hayes greeted, immediately pulling you into a hug. “Look at you! It’s been forever.”

You laughed, hugging her back. “It’s good to see you too.”

Mr. Hayes smiled and shook his head. “Your parents weren’t exaggerating. You’ve gotten so grown up.”

You rolled your eyes playfully. “You guys literally saw me last summer.”

“Still counts,” he said with a laugh.

Then another figure appeared behind them.

Tall. Broad-shouldered. Messy hair peeking out from underneath a worn baseball cap. Faded jeans, scuffed boots, and a flannel thrown over a plain shirt.

He looked completely out of place in the middle of the city.

His eyes met yours.

He stared.

You stared back.

Mrs. Hayes smiled. “And this is our son, Cole. You two never really got to meet properly.”

Cole gave you a small nod.

“Hey.”

You raised an eyebrow. “Hey.”

There was something about his expression that immediately rubbed you the wrong way.

Maybe it was the faint smirk.

Maybe it was the way he looked around your perfectly decorated house like he’d never seen anything like it.

Or maybe it was the fact that when your mother mentioned the Hayes family would be living right next door, Cole looked directly at you and said—

“Guess we’re gonna be neighbors.”

You forced a smile.

“Lucky me.”

His smirk grew.

“Yeah. Lucky you.”
