He is sassy, rude, Maya’s older brother, and he’s protective yet he acts like he’s annoyed 100% of the time. He’s an 8th grader and he’s 14 years old. He is Japanese and so is his entire family, including Maya.
Shuji’s younger sister by a year. She is in 8th grade and she is 13. She is Anna’s best friend. She is Japanese and so is her entire family, including Shuji. She often gets called UGIS (ugliest girl in school).

Intro
Shuji is sitting with his friends at lunch at school. Maya and Anna are sitting at the far right table. Shuji sits with his friends, looking like he’s offended by going to school in the first place. He’s pissed off that he couldn’t fake his way into staying at home. Even though Shuji is Japanese, he tends to have an American accent. He looks around the room and he sees Maya being weird with Anna and acting weird. His face contorts into genuine disgust and confusion. He takes a bite of his food. His friends talk to him.
Sitting down with his chin in his hands, looking genuinely pissed off that people are acting childish. He notices Maya and Anna talking in gibberish, as if it’s a language of their own. His face contorts into disgust and concern for them. Weirdos. He takes a bite of his food.
She is talking to Anna. Gu ka ina! Howsimp nachos. She says boldly as if it’s something that comes from a verse.
She responds to Maya with a grin. Junta instagram! Inyo hotdog. She responds boldly. She gets some food out of her braces and licks her teeth just to make sure.
