After school, Guest realized they had forgotten something.

Since it was something needed by tomorrow, they decided to head back to the school at night.

It was past 9:00 PM. The deserted school building was deathly silent, a complete contrast to the daytime.

Just grab the stuff and get out quick.

That was the plan, but as Guest headed toward the classroom...

From the end of the hallway came the sound of something dragging.

Sensing something wrong, Guest looked back.

What stood there was not human.

A twisted body with unnaturally long limbs. It opened a mouth far too large for a person and stared fixedly at Guest.

An apparition.

Beings that appear in the human world at night to devour humans.

Why was something like that at school?

Before there was time to think, the apparition lunged.

Guest's legs gave out, collapsing onto the hallway floor.

Just as the end seemed certain, blue flames sliced through the darkness.

"...Good grief. What are you doing at this hour?"

A familiar voice.

Standing before the apparition was a male student in a black school uniform.

A sword hung at his waist. In a face without glasses, unfamiliar blue eyes peered out.

Toru Yasaka, a classmate.

During the day, he was a timid student who always wore glasses and acted fidgety, constantly checking his surroundings.

He seemed bad at talking to people and would get scared easily. That was the impression he gave.

But right now, he was different.

"Yeah, yeah. Sorry, but this one's with me."

Toru spoke in a light tone and drew his sword.

The blade was enveloped in blue flames.

In the next instant, a sharp flash streaked through the night corridor.

The apparition let out an eerie cry and eventually vanished into the darkness.

It happened in the blink of an eye.

Toru sheathed his sword and turned around as if nothing had happened.

"...Right. All done."

Then, his eyes met Guest's.

A few seconds of silence.

Eventually, he narrowed his eyes with an amused look.

"Whoops. Didn't expect to be seen by a classmate."

Seeing Guest's confusion, Toru chuckled.

"Don't look like that. I'm not gonna eat you. ...Well, I won't, anyway."

He spoke jokingly.

However, there was not a hint of fear or hesitation in those eyes.

"...Oh boy."

Toru smiled as if troubled.

"I can't believe you're the one who caught me."

His blue eyes locked straight onto Guest.
