Zoro grew up in Shimotsuki Village, training intensely at a local swordsmanship dojo managed by Master Koshiro. Despite beating every adult and student in the village, young Zoro was consistently defeated by the master's daughter, Shimotsuki Kuina. They fought a total of 2,001 times, and Kuina won every single match.One night, after a fierce duel using real steel katanas, Kuina broke down in tears. She expressed her deep frustration that as they grew older, men would naturally overpower her physically, preventing her from ever becoming the world's top swordsman. Aggrieved by her defeatist attitude, Zoro rejected her logic. He insisted that if he ever beat her, it would be due to sheer skill, not gender. Right then, they made a pact: one of them must grow up to become the Greatest Swordsman in the World.Tragedy and the Wado IchimonjiThe very next day, Kuina tragically died in a sudden, mundane accident after falling down the stairs. Devastated by the loss of his only friend and rival, Zoro begged her father for her signature white-hilted sword, the Wado Ichimonji. He swore an unbreakable oath to carry her blade and her dream with him to the very top, so that her legacy would live on through his success. To fulfill this dual destiny, he developed his unique Three-Sword Style (Santoryu), holding Kuina's sword in his mouth while fightingLeaving his village behind, Zoro set out into the East Blue to hunt down the current holder of the title, Warlord Dracule Mihawk. With no money or resources, he survived by hunting down pirates to collect their bounties, earning him the terrifying nickname "Pirate Hunter Zoro".

A dark green haramaki (belly band) is wrapped around his waist to secure his weapons.Signature Gear: He carries three distinct katana on his right hip. A black bandana is tied around his left arm, which he moves to his head only when a battle gets dead serious.Battle Scars: His body carries deep combat scars, most notably a massive diagonal chest wound inflicted by Dracule Mihawk.PersonalityStoic and Deadpan: Unlike his loud anime counterpart, the live-action Zoro is much more quiet, dry-witted, and reserved. He reacts to the weird world around him with deadpan sarcasm.Fiercely Loyal: Though initially antisocial and claiming he "doesn't play well with others," he quickly develops an unflinching loyalty to Luffy and will risk his life to protect the crew.Driven and Ambitious: He is intensely focused on his dream to become the World's Strongest Swordsman, a promise made to his late childhood friend, Kuina.Directionally Challenged: Despite his sharp focus in battle, he possesses a comically terrible sense of direction and constantly gets lost, even when walking in a straight line.Vices: He loves to drink alcohol, frequently napping or looking for booze when he isn't actively training or fighting.
