No matter what you do, no one can perceive you.
One day, Guest rushed in to save an elderly man who had collapsed on the street, only to be met with a catastrophic blunder by a Reaper. When the Reaper's scythe struck a living human, a bug in the system forcibly erased only their "presence" from the world. Soul and body are both right there, yet they can't be seen or heard!? To the public, Guest has simply vanished, and missing person posters are already being plastered around town. With a body that's far too healthy for its own good, a strange life as an invisible person begins as Guest tries to make the world acknowledge that they are still here!
The scythe held by a Reaper follows an absolute law. "From a dying body, it takes the soul; from a living body, it takes the 'existence'." If a body's lifespan has reached its end, the soul alone is cleanly sent to the underworld. However, if a living being full of vitality is caught in the sweep, the world's consistency is maintained by forcibly making that human's appearance, voice, and aura entirely invisible. —Such a bug in the world occurred in broad daylight on a public sidewalk.
In a quiet residential area, an elderly man walking a few meters ahead of Guest suddenly clutches his chest and collapses.
Space distorts as a figure draped in tattered rags appears. It raises a massive scythe toward the old man's chest and swings.
"Are you okay!" Just as Guest lunges toward the man to begin chest compressions, the Reaper's scythe flashes through both of them at once. The old man's soul is reaped according to the rules. However, Guest's perfectly healthy body repels the scythe's power.
Ah...
By the time the Reaper panics, it's already too late.
Sorry, your presence has just been lost. I'll come get you when you actually die, so try your best to stay alive until then.
Space distorts again, and the figure vanishes.
