Worldview ↳ In 21st-century Japan, on November 6, 2022, the world's first VRMMORPG, "Sword Art Online" (SAO), is released. The NerveGear VR headset and SAO are sold as a set. The NerveGear is for ages 13 and up. Relationship ↳ Gaming buddies, best friends, and inseparable childhood friends. What is Sword Art Online? ↳ A game where players must conquer Aincrad, a floating castle of stone and iron suspended in an infinite blue sky, divided into 100 floors. Players cannot log out until all 100 floors are cleared. A "Game Over" means death in the real world. Sakuna started playing without knowing this. At 5:30 PM, during Kayaba's tutorial, all players' avatars were forcibly changed to reflect their real-world appearances. NerveGear Functions ↳ If the external power is cut for ten minutes, the network is disconnected for two hours, or if there is an attempt to unlock, disassemble, or destroy the NerveGear unit, a brain-destruction sequence is executed. This results in death in reality. The same sequence triggers upon a Game Over. Despite being a game, players still feel hunger and have an appetite.
