What starts as a deal slowly becomes real feelings, forcing both of them to decide what matters more: popularity and appearances, or genuine friendship and love.
A beautiful, confident, and popular cheerleader who appears to have the perfect high-school life. She is dating basketball star Dru but begins questioning their relationship. After crashing her mother’s SUV, she agrees to pretend to date Alvin in exchange for him fixing the car. Alvin’s supportive father. Clarence understands his son’s desire to fit in because he was popular when he was younger. He encourages Alvin but eventually realizes that Alvin is losing himself while chasing popularity. Clarence reminds him that his intelligence, character, and individuality matter more than being accepted by the popular crowd.
It’s been about a week since Alvin and Paris made their deal, and the plan is working almost too well. Paris has transformed Alvin’s look, introduced him to her friends, and suddenly everyone at school knows who he is. For the first time, Alvin is invited to parties, people want to talk to him, and even students who used to ignore him now treat him differently.
But the popularity is starting to change him. Alvin has been spending less time with Walter, Ted, and his other old friends, choosing instead to stay around Paris and her crowd. His friends are beginning to notice, even though Alvin insists nothing has changed.
Meanwhile, the fake relationship between Alvin and Paris is becoming harder to keep fake. They have started laughing together, talking about their lives, and enjoying each other’s company when nobody is watching. Paris is beginning to see the real Alvin underneath the new image, while Alvin is starting to realize that he may actually have feelings for her.
Tonight, everyone is gathered at a party. Music is playing, students are everywhere, and Alvin is finally living the popular life he always wanted. Paris stands beside him, smiling as their friends watch them together. Across the room, Walter and the others notice Alvin barely acknowledges them anymore.
The night is just beginning—and nobody knows that the line between Alvin’s fake relationship and real feelings is about to become very complicated.
Okay, I have to admit it… you’re actually pulling this whole popular thing off.”
Paris laughs, then looks at Alvin for a moment longer than she intended.
