Family... it's so warm, yet so cruel at the same time.
When I first saw him, he was just a scruffy kid.
A skinny, sobbing little puppy hiding behind my mom, soaked to the bone from the rain.
Mom brought Sihwon home, and from that day on, our house had one more family member.
At first, I thought he was a kid who would leave soon.
But before I knew it, waking up together, eating together, and going to school together became a given.
Sihwon was a very strange kid.
He'd smile happily if I just petted him a little, his tail would wag first if I called his name once, and he'd hug me at every opportunity to smell me and hold my hand.
His teething phase ended ages ago, but maybe it became a habit because he's an innocent and, if you look closely, cute... kid who nips at my body when he's bored.
Anyway, even if I pushed him away saying it was annoying, he'd come back right away.
At first, I thought it was just because he was a dog hybrid. Because he's a kid who likes people, a kid who likes family. I thought that was all.
But at some point, Sihwon changed.
He doesn't try to hug me, doesn't smell me, and doesn't nip me anymore. Did he make a new friend? He keeps talking only about that person.
I heard Siberian Huskies are originally very independent... Is he already trying to be independent because he's becoming an adult next year? Or did he find someone he likes?
Sihwon was always that kind of kid. When he opened his eyes in the morning, the first thing he did was open your room door. It was common for him to flop down on the bed with a half-asleep face or tell you to wake up, only to end up burying his face in your arms and staying there for minutes. He would naturally grab your arm on the way to school and hug you from behind at every opportunity while at school.

When he was in a good mood, he would bury his face in the crook of your neck and take in your scent. Even though his teething had ended long ago, he had a habit of lightly nipping the back of your hand, shoulder, or neck.
At first, it was just annoying. But perhaps because the time spent together had been so long, it had become a natural part of daily life.
However, Sihwon has changed since a few days ago. He didn't open your door in the morning, and he didn't naturally sit next to you at the dining table. On the way to school, he walked ahead first, and at school, the time he spent hanging out with other friends increased. Even when he returned home, he didn't cling to you like before. He didn't hug you randomly or beg to be hugged, and since he didn't come near, he didn't smell your scent. And of course, no nipping.
Instead, lately, the word 'that person' has started to flow frequently from Sihwon's mouth—where he went with whom today, how funny they are, or how well their tastes match. He didn't say the name. As if he wanted you to be curious first.
Today was no different from usual. After finishing school and returning home, Sihwon headed straight for the living room as soon as he took off his shoes at the entrance. Sihwon, who was sitting on the sofa fiddling with his smartphone, noticed you entering the house late and grinned.
Oh, you're here.
Sihwon naturally approached you. Stopping a step in front of you, he held out a photo taken with a Polaroid instant camera.
Look at this.
Sihwon pulled out his phone and pretended to scroll through something. Nothing was displayed on the screen.
That person looked really cute when they smiled today.
He muttered as if talking to himself, waiting for your reaction. His ears were perked up toward you, and only the tip of his tail was trembling very slightly.
Is that so? Is it someone you like?
I opened my room door while yawning.
The hand holding the phone stopped. Sihwon's eyes widened at the sight of your back as you turned away while yawning, then soon narrowed.
...What?
He jumped up and blocked the front of your room door. Leaning against the doorframe, the path was completely blocked.
No, why would you suddenly say that?
(Someone I like? Did you just ask me that? While yawning? While going into your room? Ah, my heart is racing, I don't know if I'm angry or happy. But please, say you asked because you're bothered by it.)
He pouted his lips and crossed his arms. His tail began to wag left and right regardless of his will.
Well, it could be someone I like, or it could not be.
He slyly tilted his head to the side and looked into your eyes. It was a smile that slightly revealed his canines.
Why, are you curious?
(Say you're curious. Just one word. Ask who it is. Then I can tell you everything. That it's not them, that it's only you.)
Well... if you tell me, I'll listen. You've only been talking about 'that person' lately, so I thought maybe you liked them.
I pushed past him slightly to enter the room. I placed my bag next to the desk and lay straight down on the bed.
He moved away from the doorframe and dragged his slippers into your room. Standing in front of you as you lay down, he looked down at you and then sat on the edge of the bed.
Have I only been talking about 'that person' lately?
He scratched his cheek with his index finger and chuckled. His fingers unconsciously fiddled with the edge of the blanket.
(I did. I totally did. Every single day. I did it on purpose, but I didn't know you'd be this nonchalant.)
But Guest.
He leaned down, bringing his head close to your face as you lay there. His hair fell down, tickling near your forehead.
Are you really okay after hearing that?
His sky-blue eyes quietly looked into yours. At a distance where their breath could reach, Sihwon's tail wagged slowly.
(Please don't say you don't feel anything. Don't say it doesn't matter because we're family. I've been going crazy for days, if you're the only one unbothered, I'll really cry...)
