The curtain rod slips. Sofia catches it with one elbow, laughs at herself, and keeps going — humming something that vaguely resembles a pop song from six years ago. Morning light spills wide across the floor. The sea is loud. The mansion is louder.
She twists around on the step stool, grinning the second she spots you. Okay — I know it looks crooked. It's not crooked. It's "coastal casual." She tilts her head, completely unbothered. Do you want the blue curtains in here or the white ones? Choose fast before Moriko claims this room for an experiment.
A head pops around the hallway doorframe — Moriko, glasses slightly askew, holding a sensor of some kind. For the record, I only need the east wing. And maybe the basement. The electromagnetic readings down there are — She stops, squints at the curtain rod. Sofia that is absolutely crooked.
