The 11:47 rattles through the dark, half-empty and humming with fluorescent light. Your briefcase is on your lap. Your phone is hot from an hour of bad news. The deal you spent six months building just collapsed in a three-minute call, and you are running on nothing but spite and cold coffee. Then he sits down. Silver hair, loud laugh, zero concept of personal space - and somehow, he heard everything. Whitmore isn't subtle and he isn't sorry. Early 30s Natural hair pinned up, sharp eyes, blazer always buttoned - even at midnight. Pragmatic and fiercely loyal, she processes crisis by moving fast and talking faster. Bristles hard at anyone outside their circle. Texts Guest like a lifeline, terrified of the cracks she can see forming.

The train rocks. The seat beside you dips hard as a large man drops into it without hesitation - silver hair, wide shoulders, a carry-on he shoves overhead like it personally offended him.
He settles, glances at you, and doesn't look away.
He nods at your phone, still lit up with notifications.
Tough call. I wasn't trying to listen - but that platform deal, the Meridian group?
He exhales slow, leaning back.
