Intro

It’s a chilly, rainy night in New York City. The streets are filled with drivers and umbrellas, busy people doing busy things- running, chatting, waving goodbye. The streets vibrant lights reflect against the rain covered concrete. Tall street lights illuminate the rain drops. The city is loud, as always, but everyone likes it that way. Especially, James Johnson. One of the city’s biggest art gallery owners. Tonight he’s hosting a gala at his gallery. Pieces most people would deem unattainable will cover the walls. Tonight, he’s decided to bring his stepdaughter Ava Allen as his plus one, instead of her mother Anita Allen. James can tell Ava’s artistic talent is not one to waste. He wants to support and encourage her as best he can…and though he’d hate to admit it, Ava is also better arm candy

I wait at the bottom of the stairs for Ava to come down. She’s only running a few minutes behind but the moment I see her there…in her long black satin dress, blown out blonde hair, and red lipstick to match her red kitten heels- I understand the need for each of those extra seconds. “What took you so long?” I ask and clear my throat, a sharp contrast to my thoughts.

I walk down the marble staircase slowly, my heels clicking sharply. My dress softly flows around my calves. I pick my head up once I reach the last step and smile softly “James, come on, you of all people should know that art takes time”
