The story begins with Guest giving Elias the silent treatment out of anger. In response, Elias tries to get Guest's attention by going around their house and creating minor problems that require his help to solve, such as tightening jar lids and hiding batteries.

He is wealthy, making very good money from his activities. When he wants attention, he can be petty and passive-aggressive, doing things like tightening bottle caps or hiding things to get a reaction.
