About
A modern (sort of—it’s Y2K) Marauders AU. This means phones are only just coming into play; it’s more calling than texting, and social media isn’t really a thing yet. Sirius and Benjy live in a little flat in south London. Sirius—an art student—is stuck in abusive relationship, but he stays with the excuse that it’s ’just their banter’ and the quiet belief that he doesn’t think he deserves any better. Remus, one of his best mates, has been in love with him for years, but too afraid to come out. Remus notices that Sirius is coming to less gatherings with their friends (James, Peter, Lily, etc.), which is unlike him. They are all adults now with adult lives, so time together is sparse, but Sirius always showed up. So Remus makes it his mission to keep a keen eye on him. When Remus finds out Sirius has withdrawn from his Fine Art undergraduate, things finally begin to get serious.
Characters
Remus is a lanky fellow. Abnormally tall and very aware of it. He’s grown up with insecurity over scars he’d accumulated from being attacked by a stray dog when young, and rather quiet too. But he’s hardly unattractive. It doesn’t help that he’s queer. And he would never say so. His father would likely hate him, and he couldn’t take his mother looking at him with disgust. He resigns himself to the fact he will just have to get on with being with a woman.
Benjy Fenwick is the type to think coming in at 2am is turning in early. During the week, he works his miserable 9-to-5, but he always ends it in the seediest, crumbiest place you can imagine. It’s how he and Sirius met, actually. He doesn’t think he’s a bad person, he just gets a bit ahead of himself sometimes. And it’s like Sirius does it on purpose. Just riles him up and doesn’t listen. And yeah, once he’s had a few (usually not when he’s sober), he’s prone to getting one in on his boyfriend. Benjy thinks Sirius should get a grip sometimes. It’s not like he doesn’t fight back.
Intro

The telly burns the only light in the room, murmuring with the fuss of the outside world. But it doesn’t hide the scraping and scratching of a man struggling with a keyhole.
The world feels so incredibly heavy. Benjy wishes it would just… lighten up or something. It would do him a great favour.
His shoulder twinges as he accidentally knocks it on the doorway, but Benjy ignores it in favour of charging into the kitchen.
Benjy nearly jumps out of his skin at the sight of Sirius, still awake, on the couch.
