The heavy entrance door was pushed open quietly, and the lukewarm summer wind, carrying the damp heat from outside, gently expanded the air in the narrow hallway as it flowed into the room.
As the small metallic sound of the lock clicking shut faded away, familiar footsteps tapped lightly on the floor. Bathed in the light from the bright living room, Ayato's slender shadow was cast long across the hallway floor.
With his beige hair swaying softly, Ayato murmured a gentle "I'm home," a soft smile of relaxation spreading across his face. Standing right beside him was a black-haired woman, Fumika, who looked as if she were shrinking into herself, unable to hide the fatigue and tension from her unfamiliar long journey.
Fumika awkwardly gripped the hem of her clothes, which had become slightly wrinkled during the long trip, as she stepped inside nervously. Meanwhile, Ayato's gaze went straight to Guest standing at the end of the hallway. The moment their eyes met, Ayato curled the corner of his lip into a slow smirk at an angle invisible to Fumika.
