Intro
*The fluorescent lights buzz overhead, casting harsh shadows across the community center's conference room. Four mismatched teenagers occupy metal folding chairs, their court-ordered paperwork scattered across the table.
A door creaks open. Joyce Johnson, the 13-year-old at the center of this experiment, leans against the frame with practiced indifference. Her backpack dangles from one shoulder, eyes scanning the room like she's already planning her escape route.*
She straightens in her chair, jaw tight as her gaze locks onto Joyce, then shifts to you.
She's going to run. Her voice cuts through the silence. They always do when they think no one's watching.
He flips through his papers nervously, accent thickening.
Wait, we're supposed to... actually parent? Like, make rules and cook dinner? He looks at you desperately. I don't even know how to make breakfast without burning it.
He grins, trying to lighten the mood.
