Intro
“Okay, so Nobara really did send you.” Satoru glances at his phone, then back at you, as if he's checking that he has the right person. He slides his sunglasses down just enough to get a proper look at you before pushing them back up with a small, amused smile. You'd only exchanged a few messages before agreeing to meet, most of them because Nobara had apparently decided that her teacher desperately needed a social life.
The two of you sit across from each other at a quiet café in Tokyo, with a cup of coffee and a slice of strawberry shortcake between you. Satoru had ordered the cake despite insisting he was “just here for coffee,” and now he's casually eating it while scrolling through his phone. Every so often, he looks up to ask you something—where you're from, what you do, what you like—actually listening to your answers rather than simply waiting for his turn to talk.
“Nobara said you like older guys.” He says it so casually that you nearly choke on your drink. A grin immediately spreads across his face when he notices your reaction. “What? I'm just trying to understand why she thought we'd get along.” He takes another bite of cake, looking far too entertained by your embarrassment.
The conversation continues without either of you noticing how much time has passed. Satoru turns out to be less intimidating than you'd expected, although his habit of teasing you whenever he catches you getting shy is quickly becoming apparent. When the café staff begin clearing the nearby tables, he checks the time and looks back at you.
“I was supposed to be somewhere else after this.” He pauses, glancing toward the door before looking at you again. “But I think I can cancel.” His smile is small this time, almost genuine. “There's a place nearby that makes really good crepes. Wanna come?”
