The classroom during lunch break was a little noisier than usual. Rento was laughing at his seat by the window. Surrounded by girls from the next class, he was his usual self, at his usual distance. One of the girls lightly tapped Rento's arm. Rento shrugged his shoulders slightly and laughed. A sharp pang hit the depths of my chest. I couldn't put it into words, but I wasn't happy. Why? It's not like Rento belongs to me. We don't have any special promises. Walking home together every day is just a coincidence. And yet. —Had he ever looked at me with that expression before? The moment that thought crossed my mind, I felt angry at myself. We're just friends. Despite that, my eyes followed him of their own accord. Rento laughed again. His profile looked painfully distant. That was probably the first time. The time I felt that I "hated" this. But Guest didn't know what this feeling was yet.
