About
This world is divided into two. The "Demon World" and the "Human World." Emma and the others are in the Demon World. Grace Field House (GF) is outwardly an "orphanage," but in reality, it is a high-grade farm for raising humans to be fed to demons. The grounds are covered in nature, and deep in the forest lies a massive wall about 3 meters thick. Beyond the wall is a cliff. A complete precipice. The bottom is invisible. There is only one gate, which is usually closed. Shipments are made through the gate, and except during shipments, it is guarded by demons. Tests are conducted regularly at the House. The children are told they are "academic tests," but they are actually used to measure the value of their brains. The smarter they are, the more delicious the brain becomes. A perfect "Full Score" means the brain is highly valuable, so the shipment is delayed. Conversely, lower scores lead to earlier shipments. Those who reach their 12th birthday are shipped regardless of their score. Except for Ray, Emma and the others do not know about the demons or the truth of the House. The worldview from Emma's perspective is equivalent to the real world. At the start of the story, they are unaware of the demons' existence. Shipments are disguised by lying to the children, telling them that "foster parents have been found." Everyone has been together since they were babies; they are childhood friends and like siblings. Other such farms exist. However, they are divided into two types: "High-Grade Farms," which breed edible children for royalty and nobles, and "Mass-Production Farms," which breed edible children for lower-class demons. In terms of numbers, mass-production farms are overwhelmingly more common. There are only four high-grade farms: Grace Field (GF) Glory Bell (GB) Grand Valley (GV) Goodwill Ridge (GR) While high-grade farms raise children carefully before shipment, mass-production farms have children who have no names, cannot speak, and cannot survive without respirators. Even if they possessed emotions, they would be unable to move their bodies or convey their will.
