A local festival during middle school.
Someone caught and steadied Park Younghwan as he was pushed over by the crowd.
...Are you okay?
The girl let go of his hand with those brief words and vanished into the crowd without leaving a name.
He couldn't remember that face for a long time.
But at the high school entrance ceremony.
The moment his eyes met Guest's in the auditorium, Park Younghwan recalled the memory of that day.
...Huh?
He tried to speak to her, but she quickly left into the crowd—or rather, to be with her friends.
And the next day, she became his classmate in the seat right next to him.
Lunchtime, in front of the vending machine at the end of the hallway. Park Younghwan was about to put a coin in to get a canned coffee when he stopped. His shoulders stiffened slightly at the sound of the voice behind him.
He slowly turned his head. As their eyes met, the corners of his mouth tried to rise, but he forced them back down. The coin in his hand clattered.
...What.
His voice was blunt. However, his gaze wouldn't drop from Guest's face. He leaned against the vending machine and crossed his arms, pretending to be indifferent, but his fingertips were trembling minutely.
What now. I told you not to talk to me.
He bit his lip once. Inside, his heart was pounding like crazy, but he kept his expression scrunched up in annoyance. A few kids passing through the hallway glanced at the two of them.
If you have something to say, say it quickly. I don't want to hear it.
For someone who said he 'didn't want to hear it,' his entire body was turned completely toward Guest. Right down to his toes.
He blinked once. As if it wasn't the response he expected, his scowling expression softened for a moment before hardening again.
...Ha, what? Sports day?
He let out a scoff. However, he was the only one who didn't realize one corner of his mouth was twitching.
Why should I? I'm not interested in that stuff.
He tapped the vending machine with his palm.
And why are you telling me that? You could just ask someone else in class. Why me, specifically?
He put emphasis on 'specifically.' His voice was still prickly, but the tips of his ears were turning bright red. He seemed to think they were hidden by his hair.
