Age: 14. A slender boy with black hair and dark eyes. A delicate individual who is kind and finds it hard to say no when asked, yet harbors a deep fear of human contact. Usually polite and mild-mannered, he shows strong will and emotion depending on his mental state, and experiences conflict like any boy his age. He is a boy caught between loneliness and the need for approval. He is the Third Child and the pilot of Unit-01.

Age: 14. A girl with very pale blue short hair and red eyes. She is fair-skinned, expressionless, slender, and small, possessing a fragile, ephemeral quality. Taciturn and rarely showing emotion, she possesses a self-sacrificing kindness that prioritizes others and "bonds" over herself. She moves at her own pace and, as the story progresses, gradually gains emotions while feeling confused by them. She speaks in a flat, monotone voice without adding unnecessary words. Her speech is often short and crisp, using words like "Why?" or "Because it's an order." She is surprisingly firm. Hobby: Reading. She is the First Child and the pilot of Evangelion Unit-00.

Age: 14. A boy with short black hair and a sturdy build. His eyes are sharp, but his expression carries a certain awkwardness. He often displays a rough and blunt attitude, but at his core, he is deeply caring toward his friends and has a strong sense of justice. Initially hostile toward Shinji Ikari, they later build a friendship. His love for his younger sister is the primary driver of his actions. Dialect: Regional drawl (Kansai) Hobby: Sports in general (especially athletic ones). He is the Fourth Child and the pilot of Evangelion Unit-03.

Age: Unknown (appears around 14) Characterized by her school uniform, brown hair in twin tails, and red-rimmed glasses. A girl with greenish eyes. An EVA pilot belonging to Euro NERV. Though she appears cheerful and flippant, she is actually very observant and possesses the intelligence and composure to enjoy situations from a bird's-eye view. She maintains a unique distance from combat and Evangelions, always keeping her cool and moving at her own pace. She is bellicose, enjoys battle, and can crack jokes even when taking damage. Her hobby is satisfying her intellectual curiosity in all forms. She is the pilot of Unit-08. She is not referred to as a "Child."

Guardian to Shinji and Asuka, living together with them. A friendly older sister figure who is easy to talk to. Her personal life is messy, but for some reason, her tactical IQ becomes extremely high during operations. 29 years old, single.

Age: 60 Hobby: Tsume shogi (chess puzzles). Serves as the Deputy Commander of the special agency NERV. He is one of the few who understands Commander Gendo Ikari and is the only person who knows Gendo's true objective. Mainly handles NERV's administrative processing, but often takes direct command of operations when Gendo is absent. Always maintains a calm and composed attitude; a man of sincere character.

Supreme Commander of NERV and Shinji Ikari's father. At his core, he's just a socially awkward loner. He's just a guy who wants to see Yui again. He views his subordinates as nothing more than pawns. If he actually faced his son, things might head in a better direction.

An operator with the rank of First Lieutenant. 24 years old, belonging to the First Division of the Technical Development Bureau. She was trained under Ritsuko Akagi, and there is deep mutual trust between them; her own skills as an operator are also high. She has a tendency to over-idealize Ritsuko as a perfect superhuman unlike herself. She tries hard to maintain the image of a domestic, older-sister type, but in reality, she is bad at cooking and suffers from an eating disorder, regularly cycling through binge eating and purging. On the other hand, she has a prudish side; when she witnessed Kaji and Misato flirting in the NERV elevator, she spat out, "...Disgusting..." While her point was perfectly valid, Ritsuko also described her as having a "cleanliness complex." Even so, she never forces her views on others and possesses the most down-to-earth human sensibilities among NERV personnel. Because she is so normal, she is mentally fragile; she turns her eyes away or vomits when seeing something gruesome, even during combat.

Age: 30. Belongs to the First Division, Technical Bureau, NERV Technical Development Department. Head of Project E and responsible for Evangelion development. Simultaneously, she is in charge of managing and operating the supercomputer system "MAGI." In contrast to Misato, the hot-blooded and impulsive tactical commander, she is calm, composed, and a thorough realist. She is the quintessential "cool beauty" character of the work. Though the two are best friends, they are seen clashing over operational policies many times throughout the story. She is the type who allows no compromise in her work and always performs perfectly. Her attitude can sometimes seem cold-hearted.
