Ranboo is the nervous conscience of the group. He hates stealing and scamming but sticks around because he can't bear to leave his friends struggling alone. Awkward, intelligent, and anxious, he's always the one warning everyone when a plan is about to go wrong. Despite his nervous nature, he's incredibly loyal.
Tubbo is the group's planner and the best liar when he needs to be. Friendly, clever, and surprisingly charismatic, he's usually the one handling scams because people naturally trust him. Despite his calm demeanor, he's constantly stressed about money and keeping everyone afloat. He's practical where Tommy is reckless.
Tommy is the loudest member of the group by far. Reckless, sarcastic, and impossible to embarrass, he treats almost everything like a game. He's the one constantly coming up with ridiculous schemes and somehow talking everyone else into them. Underneath all the bravado, though, Tommy cares fiercely about his friends and would do almost anything to keep them together. He's impulsive, stubborn, and has a habit of acting first and thinking later.
One of the city's most beloved heroes. George is known for being kind-hearted, patient, and stubbornly optimistic. While many heroes have become cynical after years of dealing with criminals, George still genuinely wants to help people. Unfortunately, that same kindness makes him an easy target for scams. He's not naive, though—he notices more than people think.
Dream is considered the city's strongest hero—and arguably its most intimidating. Calm, calculating, and frighteningly intelligent, he rarely speaks more than necessary. Unlike George, Dream has little patience for criminals and prefers efficiency over sentimentality. Despite his cold reputation, he is fiercely protective of his team and takes hero work incredibly seriously.
Sapnap is George's partner on patrol and almost the complete opposite of him. Hot-headed, competitive, and protective, he's usually the first to suspect a scam and the first to chase down a criminal. While he complains constantly about George being "too nice," he's secretly one of the most caring heroes in the city.
Money had gotten tight. Really tight.
So tight that you, Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo had started pulling scams just to get by. It wasn't exactly something any of you were proud of, but when rent was overdue and the cupboards were practically empty, desperation had a way of changing your priorities.
Tonight's target had been George — one of the city's most well-known heroes, known as 404. He was kind, wealthy, and unfortunately for him, always willing to help someone who looked like they were in trouble.
Tubbo stood by the bus stop, putting on an award-worthy performance.
Tubbo: "Hey, mate... got a spare buck? Bus driver won't let me on, it's getting late, and I lost my wallet. My phone's smashed too."
George frowned.
For a moment, it looked like he might walk away. Heroes dealt with lies every day, after all.
But then his expression softened.
George: "Just be careful, alright?"
He handed Tubbo several bills.
Tubbo: "Thanks, man."
Tubbo quickly slipped the money into his pocket before turning away.
Hidden in the nearby alley, you watched alongside Tommy and Ranboo.
Tommy: "Hook, line, and sinker."
Ranboo: "I don't know... he looked suspicious."
As if proving Ranboo right, George remained standing at the bus stop after Tubbo left. His eyes followed the younger boy for a few seconds before drifting toward the alleyway.
Toward you.
Your stomach dropped.
George's gaze lingered for a moment before he sighed and shook his head.
George: "Yeah... that's definitely a scam."
Fortunately, he didn't try to stop any of you.
Instead, he pulled out his phone and started walking away down the sidewalk.
George: "Dream's never going to let me hear the end of this..."
You barely caught the rest as he dialed a number.
George: "Hey, Dream? Yeah, I think I found that group that's been running scams around the city. Get Sapnap and meet me at headquarters."
That was all you needed to hear.
Tommy: "Right. Time to go."
Tubbo: "Way ahead of you."
The four of you slipped out of the alley and disappeared into the maze of side streets before George could turn around.
Nearly an hour later, you finally reached the place you called home.
An abandoned warehouse on the edge of the city.
The building should have been condemned years ago. Broken windows let in the cold night air, sections of the ceiling leaked whenever it rained, and the old metal walls groaned whenever the wind picked up.
But it was hidden.
And more importantly, it was free.
Mattresses scavenged from dumpsters sat in one corner beneath a collection of stolen blankets. A battered couch occupied the center of the room. Extension cords snaked across the floor from a generator Tommy had somehow managed to "borrow."
It wasn't much.
But it was yours.
Tubbo tossed the newly acquired money onto a crate being used as a table.
Tubbo: "Well, dinner's sorted."
Tommy: "And apparently we're famous now."
Ranboo: "George called Dream and Sapnap."
The room fell silent.
Tommy's grin slowly faded.
Tommy: "...Right. That's less ideal."
Outside, thunder rumbled in the distance.
And somewhere across the city, three heroes were already putting together the pieces of who you really were.
