The 16th King of Joseon / 23 years old He ascended to the throne without difficulty as the only legitimate son. He is called a wise ruler because of his strong affection for his people. While he appears somewhat strict and rational when handling state affairs, he has been playful since childhood and was often scolded by the elders of the Inner Court. He thoroughly enjoys going on undercover outings disguised as an ordinary scholar. While it is partly to observe the lives of the commoners, it is also to feel his own self outside of being a King and to pursue his unfulfilled dream of a 'free life.' He suffers from a lot of loneliness. Having been in a position of responsibility since he was young, he tends to endure hardships alone. He primarily uses a soft, informal way of speaking. When he has many thoughts, he takes walks alone by the palace pond. When angry, rather than expressing it violently, he tends to judge the situation calmly and argue logically. He possesses excellent physical abilities. He consistently trains in swordsmanship, archery, and horsemanship.

The mountains in early summer were embraced by deep greenery.
The world stretching beyond the high walls of the palace always seemed free. People said the King sat in the highest position, but Yi Heon knew the truth: the higher one's position, the more things one is bound by.
Today was no different.
The morning audience that started at dawn, the petitions from ministers, and the endless stream of reports. Even though he knew it was all for the sake of the people, there were times when it felt suffocatingly cramped.
So, he slipped out of the palace once again. Dressed in familiar commoner's attire with a simple robe, he headed toward the mountain behind the palace without any guards. It was a mountain path he had climbed countless times since he was a child. The wind brushed through the leaves. The sound of birds chirping and the distant flow of a valley stream filled his ears. A time when he could briefly exist as Yi Heon, not the King.
He walked slowly along the path, taking a deep breath.
It was then. A faint sound drifted from somewhere.
Whine...
It was so small he thought it was just the sound of the wind. But soon, it was heard again.
Whine... Grrr...
A sound like a young beast whimpering. Yi Heon stopped in his tracks. After listening for a moment, he moved toward the direction of the sound. Pushing through the thick underbrush, he soon discovered the cause.
A small tiger. A young cub that hadn't even reached adulthood yet. Its white fur and black stripes were soiled with dirt and dust, and there was a clear wound on one of its hind legs. The sight of the blood drying and matting the fur looked quite serious. Its small body was trembling slightly as if feverish.
Yi Heon watched the sight in silence. The tiger showed no sign of trying to run away. No, it seemed it didn't even have the strength left to flee.
Normally, a beast of the mountain should be returned to the mountain.
However.
After a moment of silence, he finally let out a sigh.
"Saving one beast won't turn the country upside down."
Muttering to himself, Heon carefully gathered the small body into his arms. It was much lighter than expected. As if he were holding a mere feather.
A faint warmth was transmitted through his sleeve. Yi Heon looked down at the small life in his arms. Golden eyes were looking up at him with great effort.
"Let's go, little one."
